What the F&@%!

American Ignorance

We’ve all seen the photographs of the Iraqi prisoners, and the U.S. troops plastered all over the idiot box. When those pictures were first aired, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing; this is an atrocity I couldn’t believe I was bearing witness to. My wife broke into tears, asking me, how people could do such a horrible and disgusting act.

As the days passed, I tried to wrestle with that question, and unfortunately, I can’t seem to bring myself to an answer that sounds at all feasible. How ‘bout this…they’re fucking idiots! For a while, I was embarrassed to be an American. To think that the “great saint” of all nations, would be reduced to common perverted street thugs. By taking those pictures, whether the victims were prisoners or otherwise, that showed the whole world that Americans can lower themselves to the lowest common denominator.

What would make these soldiers do such an act? Were they so bored that this was their only source of entertainment? I understand this is wart time, however; the Geneva Convention should apply to this instance. If you’re unaware of what I’m talking about…here’s a sample that applies to this subject…

Article 3
In the case of armed conflict not of an international character occurring in the territory of one of the High Contracting Parties, each Party to the conflict shall be bound to apply, as a minimum, the following provisions:
1. Persons taking no active part in the hostilities, including members of armed forces who have laid down their arms and those placed hors de combat by sickness, wounds, detention, or any other cause, shall in all circumstances be treated humanely, without any adverse distinction founded on race, colour, religion or faith, sex, birth or wealth, or any other similar criteria.
To this end, the following acts are and shall remain prohibited at any time and in any place whatsoever with respect to the above-mentioned persons:
(a) Violence to life and person, in particular murder of all kinds, mutilation, cruel treatment and torture;
(b) Taking of hostages;
(c) Outrages upon personal dignity, in particular humiliating and degrading treatment;

Now is it me…or this was forgotten and fucked over recently.

And to make matters worse…GeeDub acted like this was a small infraction that will be “kinda” dealt with and forgotten! That was the impression I got!

Once again, I was embarrassed to be an American, for the troops, and the victims.
